A Little About Me
Hi, I’m Michael, the creative force behind Advocate Photography. I am a documentary wedding photographer based in Co Cork. I photograph weddings in a way that’s natural, authentic, and relaxed, with as little interference as possible.
Photography, for me, has always been about storytelling. Weddings are one of the most meaningful stories I get to witness. They are not just a celebration of love, but a rare moment when the people who matter most gather in one place. My aim is to document it all: the excitement, the nerves, the joyful chaos, the tiny details you spent months planning, and the unscripted moments you didn’t even realise were happening.
My Approach
I take a natural, candid approach so that you can spend your wedding day where you should be, spending it with your friends and family, not away from them. So many couples have told me they regret spending a large portion of their special day posing for portraits and missing out on all the wedding fun. I’m here to make sure that doesn’t happen.
When I am not photographing you will probably find me at home with a coffee, editing away with my cat curled up nearby. I’m mildly obsessed with my cat (okay, very obsessed) and occasionally do a bit of cat photography just for fun. They’re surprisingly good at dramatic posing and unlike most humans, they ignore direction, which weirdly makes them perfect subjects for me.
Why Wedding Photography?
Wedding photography is anything but easy and that’s exactly why I love it. Every wedding day brings new locations, shifting light, tight timelines and new couples tying the knot. The whole day keeps me fully present and creatively engaged from start to finish. I enjoy the challenge of adapting to each environment and making the most of whatever light the day offers, always aiming to capture every moment with care and intention.
What makes it truly rewarding, though, is the trust couples place in me. I know how important it is to create a relaxed space — not just for the couple, but for everyone around them. My calm, unobtrusive approach helps ease nerves and lets people be themselves. From experience, I’ve learned that guests might be camera-aware at first, but by the time the dance floor fills up, no one even notices me capturing their smooth (and sometimes hilarious) moves. And that’s exactly how I like it.
